Child Support Adjustment

If the only change you want to make to your child support order is the amount of child support you pay or receive, then you should file a motion to adjust your child support.  If you are served with a motion to adjust your child support payment, you must respond.  Pro Se University PS services provide the information you need to file an agreed motion to adjust your child support order, or to file or respond to a contested motion to adjust at either the Kent or Seattle courthouse.

The Big Picture: How to Adjust Child Support

Filing or responding to a child support adjustment motion requires that you gather your financial information and present it to the court in an organized, logical way.  Pro Se University PS takes you through the process of presenting your motion or responding to a motion filed by the other party so that the court can understand what you want and make a fair decision based on everyone’s financial circumstances.  The basic child support adjustment process requires the following steps:

  1. Filing the motion, financial declaration, sealed financial source documents, and proposed child support worksheet and serving the other parent with these documents, along with a proposed order re adjustment and a proposed child support order.
  2. Responding to or joining in the motion if you are the respondent.
  3. Arguing your case at your family law motion hearing.
  4. Preparing final orders to present to the court after your hearing.
