Pro Se University PS/ Facts

•    What is Pro Se Law?

Pro se legal representation is when a person acts as his or her own lawyer in a court proceeding.

•    Who does Pro Se University provide services to?

We provide services to parties involved in family law cases in King County Superior Court at the Seattle or Kent Courthouse.

•    How do you help people who need to represent themselves?

We offer webinars and seminars on specific family law issues.  We walk people through the process of completing paperwork, filing their paperwork, getting ready for the courtroom, and understanding court courtesy.  We also provide one-on-one attorney and paralegal support and facilities for mediation.

•    How much do your services cost?

Our services are a small fraction of the cost of full service legal representation.  Our one-hour webinars and seminars are $65 each. Paralegal support is $65 per hour and attorney support is $200 per hour.

•    What type of information can people learn in your courses?

Our clients will learn very specific, detailed instructions to complete a specific task within their family law case in King County.  Our classes and services are designed to walk individuals through their case one step at a time.

•    What are common mistakes people make when representing themselves in a legal proceeding?

The most common mistakes we see are when individuals do not file the proper paperwork, do not fill it out completely, or miss a court deadline.  We also see many pro se parties who don't follow proper protocol and courtesy in the courtroom.  Many pro se parties experience difficulty when the opposing side has representation, by misunderstanding the other attorney's role or by either giving up or not being aggressive enough.

•    Where is Pro Se University located and what area does it serve?

Pro Se University serves all of King County and is located in Burien, Washington.  We currently have seminars scheduled in our Burien office, but we will be adding seminars in downtown Seattle, as well as north and south Seattle.
